Nancy Bossert’s art is strikingly diverse and impeccably executed. Whether she is creating fashion, functional art, figurative works or abstract paintings, her work is always highly imaginative and worth checking out every season.
Her broad set of mediums includes clay, encaustics, paint to canvas and textiles. “The mix of art forms allows me to never trivialize one area and allows repetition of a theme, technique or subject without it becoming a mechanical process,” Bossert says. “My palette stays pretty consistent with an emphasis on composition and texture. My mind is always creating; I am constantly envisioning new ideas which I am anxious to see come to fruition.”
Bossert’s clay and stoneware creations convey an earthy appeal while being both aesthetic and useful objects. Her water lily dish evokes the lush environment of a spring pond, while providing an inviting place for food, candles or jewelry. The sake sets are sensational and reek of Bossert’s singular style. These mouth-blown clay vessels are painted and glazed, ready for a tea party or admiring eyes.
Her crocheted and fiber hats are a clever nod to Bohemian culture—each one a piece of art for the noggin. Remarkably, some of these hats invoke the patterns and rich coloration of her acclaimed paintings. Sometimes she even incorporates handmade clay buttons as eccentric accents.
Her wide range of paintings canvas the seemingly boundless domain of Bossert’s imagination. Some abstract paintings look like a dreamy remix of Richard Diebenkorn’s sunny Ocean Park series. The figurative work explores the human form in a rich variety of settings and situations. Her nature and still lifes cover a lot of territory, too. Bossert’s serene landscapes invite rural rumination and her floral pieces are consistently vibrant, containing unexpected touches and juxtapositions.
Make sure you check out Bossert’s jewelry as well. Her creations are exceptional and reasonably priced.
