Men of Style 2015
By: Features, Lehigh Valley Style, Men of Style, Lehigh Valley Style February 2015, Fashion, Fashion Features, Personality Profiles

Whether they are running through the park or out to dinner, these are the guys who know how to put it all together when it comes to dressing the part. These are this year's Men of Style.

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. Black Levi's beanie2. Levi's jeans3. Nike Roshe Run sneakers

My favorite spare time activity is:

Photography, when your obsession becomes your job, it's just what happens.

Whenever I see Ethan Hawke in the media, I always think he looks sharp.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Levi's, Everlane and J.Crew.

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

A black cap, blue jeans, white tee shirt and a coffee... always with a coffee.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

Be comfortable and wear clothing that makes you feel great. Most of the time it's how you feel that will transfer to those you interact with, and that is the most important thing.

My go-to colors are:

Black, white and heather grey

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

I've become very interested in Mixed Martial Arts, with my main focus being Jiu Jitsu. I train over at Finishers MMA with some of the best fighters in the area. It's an incredibly taxing sport, and as an artist I think this would make some folks tilt their head and wonder why. Some might consider the sport barbaric, but they couldn't be more wrong. [The people] I've met along the way have been some of the most kind and respectful people I've ever met.

The person who most influences my style is:

I try and keep my own compass point with what I wear. I feel if I'm too keen on trends and what's “now,” I often end up wearing a bunch of clothing I feel like I was told to, instead of what I actually want to wear.

The last app I downloaded was:

It's not exactly an app, but a podcast; Serial from NPR is my current go-to for entertainment. Tune in and you'll be addicted.

The last app I ordered was:

Garlic bread from the menu at Sal's Brick Oven Pizza in Bethlehem. My incredible wife and I simply cannot live without Sal's!

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. Clarks Desert Boot in beeswax leather: My go-to shoe for day-to-day, all-weather wear.

2. Levi's 508 tapered jeans: Trim, but not too tight, and (until recently) readily available in an oh-so-hard-to-find 32x36.

3. Seiko SNZH57 wrist watch: A sharp-looking (and quite affordable) mechanical timepiece, suitable for just about any occasion. Keeps me running on time—and the digital distractions of my iPhone well at bay.

My favorite spare time activity is:

Reading. Nothing like a good book to occupy those idle hours.

Whenever I see Elijah Wood in the media, I always think he looks sharp.

Puckish and travel-sized, sure, but invariably well-put-together.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Whatever strikes my fancy and fits my frugal budget, though the greater Gap Inc. family is pretty well represented.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

You can't go wrong with the classics. Dark-wash denim, OCBDs, OD field jackets—menswear moves in millimeters (if at all), so it never hurts to invest in staples that have stood the test of time. (Plus: amortized costs, etc.)

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I would give:

“Say 'no' to frippery!” Keep your kit clean and functional, and edit out anything that gets in the way or doesn't serve a purpose.

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

Layers upon layers and layers, weather permitting. Fall/winter is my jam.

My go-to colors are:

Cooler hues like blues, greens and greys, with a warming touch of brown leather

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

I am a huge music snob, and spent my undergraduate years (and quite a few thereafter) penning album reviews for a handful of small publications in and around Baltimore.

The person who most influences my style is:

Nick Wooster, though I wouldn't recommend trying to cop his look. Honestly: the man's sense of fit, pattern, color and proportion are impeccable, and he knows it.

The last (worthwhile) app I downloaded was:

Dave Pell's NextDraft, a curatorial news blast featuring witty rundowns of breaking stories and fascinating longreads.

The last app I ordered was:

Salmon Tartare from Maxim's 22 in Easton. Sushi-grade salmon on a bed of homemade waffle chips? Domo, très bon!

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. Black suit2. Comfy pants3. Running shoes

Whenever I see Nucky Thompson ("Boardwalk Empire") in the media,

I always think he looks sharp.

My favorite spare time activity is:

Building forts with my two girls; Lila is 5 and Adele is 3. My son Leo, who is three months old, just watches.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic and Under Armour

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

A suit and a tie, or, jeans and a button-down with a two-day beard, if I don't have meetings.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I would give:

Buy it in 10 minutes or less [and you'll have] more time for the mall bar

The person who most influences my style is:

My wife who puts 90 percent of my new clothes in the closet

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

“There is no shot those jeans will fit your thighs, Tony.” — My wife

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

I was the captain of the Detroit Tradesmen men's rugby team. I played rugby for 10 years and competed in the Men's National final four in 2008.

My go-to colors are:

Black and blue

The last app I downloaded was:

Minions from "Despicable Me," courtesy of my oldest daughter. (The app laughs at me in Minion voice in the middle of meetings and I don't know how to stop it.)

The last app I ordered was:

Shrimp Limoncello from the menu at Corked, Bethlehem

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. White tee shirt2. Black zip-front sweater/pullover3. Athletic pants

My favorite spare time activities are:

Skiing & cycling

Whenever I see Hugh Jackman in the media, I always think he looks sharp.

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

Dress shirt and Dockers for workday. Fleece pullover and athletic pants for the rest of the day. Jeans, shirt and sweater for evening.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

Your shoes and belt should match, and comfort first.

My go-to colors are:

Black, white, grey and blue

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

I travel to Manhattan once a month to mentor a group of dentists from all over the mid-Atlantic states as members of the prestigious Dawson Academy Study Club of New York City. The Dawson Academy is a world-renowned organization with the mission to “make good dentists even better” and it represents the very finest of my profession. It is my exceptional honor to have been selected from among thousands to take on this leadership role.

I also have great parking karma, but terrible driving karma.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Under Armour, Kenneth Cole and Lucky Brand jeans

The person who most influences my style is:

My wife

The last app I downloaded was:

Strava, a program to track cycling mileage, speed, elevation, etc.

The last app I ordered was from the menu at:

Bonefish

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. All Saints shoes2. All Saints leather jacket3. Fred Segal shirts

My favorite spare time activity is:

Bicycling the roads in and around the Valley.

Whenever I see Terrence Howard and Daniel Craig in the media, I always think they look sharp.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Tom Ford, Burberry, Etro and All Saints

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

Scrubs and the best way that I can jazz them up to match my fresh style.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

Just because it's the latest trend doesn't mean you can wear it. Wear what's appropriate for your age and body style, but don't be afraid to step it up. Style is an expression of one's personality.

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I would give:

It's not what you wear, but how you wear it.

My go-to colors are:

Black, navy and grey

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

I'm a veterinarian, but I don't own a dog.

The person who most influences my style is:

My mother. She taught me at a young age that getting dressed up doesn't mean being uptight. Wherever you're headed, have fun with your look.

The last app I downloaded was:

Escort Live Radar

The last app I ordered was:

Taquitos de Cerdo from the menu at Torre. Outstanding!

Name three items in your closet that you absolutely, positively could not live without.

1. Sperry Topsiders2. Dockers khakis3. Blue Oxford shirt

My favorite spare time activity is:

Golf

Whenever I see Michael Strahan or Ben Affleck in the media, I always think they look sharp.

The label(s) I find myself buying most frequently are:

Ralph Lauren

On a daily basis, you will most likely see me wearing:

Khakis, a blue Oxford shirt, sweater and cool socks

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I was ever given:

“Don't be afraid of color.”

The most valuable piece of fashion advice I would give:

Always look your best when you are out, whether formal or casual.

My go-to colors are:

Khaki, powder blue, red, yellow and white

Convey something about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out.

My love for my children and family.

The person who most influences my style is:

Myself

The last (worthwhile) app I downloaded was:

Beats music

The last app I ordered was:

Shrimp cocktail at the Hanoverville Roadhouse.

Photographing the Men of Style every year is a pleasure because they make it so easy. Here's a run down of what each guy chose to wear for our photo shoot. >>
