Road Trip Envy

Road Trip Envy
By: Life of a Style Intern, Lehigh Valley Style December 2012

February's Men's Issue will introduce a new department suggesting an awesome itinerary for a short jaunt into the surrounding area. In keeping with the issue's focus we decided to plan a bro-mance trip and I have to admit that it has enlivened my sense of adventure. While studying the gentlemanly pursuits, I discovered what riches await up in the Pocono region—skiing, shooting stuff, bell-busting breakfasts, and great swathes of natural beauty to hike and explore.

I'm almost jealous. After all, I want to eat giant breakfasts and sauce-drenched BBQ with my friends in between bouts of vigorous and fun-filled physical activity. Who doesn't? When it comes to planning a weekend frolic in the mountains, it's not that hard to get into the manly mindset.

Along the way I found a parallel lady-trip that I would take with my own girlfriends or “haglets” if we were to scamper Pocono-ward. I'd like to outline it here, for the inquisitive reader.

Sweet Creams, a café on Main Street in Stroudsburg, promises delectable house-made ice creams and scrumptious sandwiches. This is surely a perfect place to girlishly stuff our faces before continuing to the Pocono Indian Museum to learn of the Delaware/Lenape Indians who once flourished in the area (and now dwell mainly in Oklahoma, thanks to the dastardly Indian removal program). Then we'd likely visit the Asa Packer Mansion to observe beautiful old spindly chairs and opulent chandeliers. Just as my man-plan sounds like fun to me, this is likely to appeal to men of a historical bent as well.

Once again my work here has inspired and entertained me, and made me more aware of the delightful activities that eastern PA has to offer!
