Get Hot Mom Hair
By: Online this Month, Lehigh Valley Style April 2016, Beauty

Today's moms are hot. Think Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez and even Kate Middleton. Twenty to thirty years ago, if you were over the age of 25 or 30, never mind a mother, society didn't think you were hot and fashion magazines definitely wouldn't put you on the cover. Generally, moms didn't strive to stay on top of trends, looking good wasn't a commitment and the mom-bob was the safe way to go. Many had a haircut that wasn't too long and not too short with not too many layers, and just enough length to pull back into a ponytail. But today it's different, and thank goodness. Not only are 40 and 50 year olds considered hot, you can even be over 60 like Christie Brinkley and still be as hot looking as decades ago.

Moms are hot, from Angelina Jolie to Jennifer Gardner, Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, Kelly Ripa, Gwen Stefani and Sarah Jessica Parker— just to name a few. The truth is, today if you are hot you are more likely to be a mom and very likely to be over 40. And that's not just true for celebrity moms; today, every mom can look and feel her best, and be a hot Mom too.

So how can you get HOT mom hair? Well, first it starts with making sure your look is up to date. As with fashion, hairstyles should be updated at least yearly, if not seasonally, but that doesn't mean you need to be a slave to fashion or your hair. Right now, some of the hottest looks are actually lower maintenance while being fun and casual at the same time. Let's take a look at what's hot with cuts, color and texture.

HOT Mom Cuts

Just before Chrissy Teigen gave birth to her daughter Luna, she cut her long hair into the current LOB, or what's known as a long bob. It's a perfect length for a mom because it's still able to be pulled back but also can be styled easily. Change doesn't have to be drastic. Another easy and small change to your hot look could be adding a fringe. The media was a buzz when Michelle Obama decided on having one awhile back. So, if you are not looking to make drastic changes often, look to make subtle ones that are still on trend. From a few more layers or a little more texture to the cut, small changes too will keep you known as a hot mom.

HOT Mom Colors

Hair painting and babylights are popular color trends and serve as a great alternative for those who don't want high-maintenance highlights. Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson are two prime examples. You can see pretty little highlighted pieces of hair that come through near the middle and base of their hair, giving them a little sparkle around the face. For an unexpected pop of color, add some bits of fun colors like pale pink, turquoise or even deep purple. It doesn't have to be a lot, Hilary Duff just adds some pink bits to her blonde hair to have a little more fun. And if bright colors aren't the norm where you work, the bright pieces can be placed underneath so it's hidden when you want it to, but shown when you want to have some fun.

HOT Mom Texture

Texture is back, from volume, to curls and beachy waves. If you don't have any bounce in your hair, don't worry— a curling wand can take care of that. You can use the wider part of the barrel to achieve the looser waves you are seeing on hot moms like Jenna Dewan Tatum and Julia Roberts, or use the narrow end of the barrel for a tighter, bouncier wave like Beyonce. Also, perms are back, but not the ones you remember from the ‘80s. Perms, like Arrojo's American Wave, are made to create soft, natural-looking waves and curl patterns for today's style-conscious women. It doesn't matter if it's natural, done with a curling wand or an updated perm, texture is hot and having it will make you hot too.

Whether it's an update to your color, updating your look with a new cut or adding some texture, mom hair can be sexy. And there is nothing sexier than a mom who knows how hot she is.
