Update Your Home like an Outfit

Update Your Home like an Outfit

Just like you'd add a belt or bracelet to perk up an outfit, you should do the same with your home. For the forthcoming springtime, put away the winter throws and look for accent pillows in upbeat colors, bright green succulents to enliven the house or simply update any space with fun, new and trendy wallpaper. Consider some of these ideas for a springtime home makeover.

Floral Flair

Dynamic, yet subtle floral patterns can add that cheerful, spring touch in your home—from the living room to the kitchen. Manny accomplish this by purchasing throw pillows decorated with flower and foliage designs, but there are ways to be less predictable and still create the same flair. Area rugs with blossoming vintage flower cutouts or an almost paisley pattern with popping colors create an intriguing, springtime living space, especially against darker or hardwood flooring. Likewise, try looking for a floral lampshade in pastel hues and pair it with a brightly colored base for a revitalizing feel.

Renew Your Walls

Don't think that renovating with wallpaper will result in a tacky ‘70s finish; it's becoming a contemporary home enhancement. Bright and fun spring and nature patterns can introduce a lighthearted sensibility into a room. Wallpapering is an easy update, too, with peel-and-stick alternatives that are easy to remove for future design inspiration.

Let the Light In

Deciding on curtains for your home can be frustrating, but why not go for a seasonal style? A simple pair of translucent, pastel curtain panels filters light, brightens space and is an airy touch. These sheer curtains come in lively colors and playful patterns. Use simple curtain clips on a copper rod for an attractive look and easy installation.

Green & Trendy

An assortment of potted houseplants and trees is probably the most quintessential spring sprucer-upper technique. This year, give this decoration practice a modern twist. Succulents—plants with thick and fleshy leaves such as Aloe—are a trending home design trick, and they require no more care than a few drops of water once a week. Although they're often planted in glass pots for that sleek and fresh impression, which provide for great accent pieces around the house, you can also try collecting cylindrical vases with succulents in various sizes and assembling them together for a centerpiece with serious natural character. Another tip: fill a large seashell with an array of succulents, river rocks and pebbles for a conversational spring decoration.

A Natural Touch

Whitewashing, or painting unfinished wood with a paint solution so that the grain is emphasized, has increasingly been used to achieve that shabby-chic, cottage look. It lends for a more natural, rustic atmosphere in your home. Typically done over oak with a white stain or diluted white paint, it is ideal for highlighting natural wood in vintage furniture pieces, or even better, for a country-style wall paneling that turns your home cozy and inviting.

Decorate with Herbs

It's simple, yet so often overlooked; place herbs in assorted pots throughout your home for spectacular and fragrant spring-inspired decorations. Herbs grow well in containers indoors, so the options for potted herb adornments are boundless. Whether placed in one large vase or grouped together in mix-matched pots, herbs will bring in Mother Nature as garden-fresh decorations. Basil and parsley work well together in a clay pot; try even labeling each with just a piece of chalk for that primitive touch. Not only will these natural pieces make any space serene and lively, but will also serve as beautiful, practical and inexpensive herb gardens.
