In October, we showed you how to extend your summer glow, but winter's about to do everything in its power to assure that doesn't happen. Dry, itchy skin season is upon us and there's nothing glamorous about it. Thankfully, we dug up a few tips to keep your skin looking and feeling great this chilly season.
Take shorter, cooler showers.
We know it's painful, but standing in the scolding hot water for an hour is going to seriously dry out your skin. Hot water dehydrates your skin and will break down its moisture. Lessen the heat and shower like you're in a hurry!
Humidify.
Dry winter air equals dry winter skin, right? Pump some moisture into the atmosphere by investing in a humidifier. This will not only help your skin but support your overall health, too. Turn it on before you go to sleep and wake up feeling revitalized.
Moisturize.
When you see your skin starting to peel, don't pick at it. Simply apply an oil-based moisturizer to replenish your skin cells. Even if you naturally have oily skin, you want to make moisturizing a priority. Pick a moisturizer depending on your skin's specific needs.
Don't over or under exfoliate.
While there's really no such thing as too much moisturizing, there's definitely such a thing as too much exfoliating. You want to rid yourself of dead skin cells left over from summer, but not scrub your skin raw, which will also wreck its ability to hold moisture. How do you know if you're over-exfoliating? Figure it out here.
Hydrate.
You're probably more likely to drink lots of water in the summer when you're the most active, but don't forget that your winter skin desperately need hydration!
Remember these five tips and your winter will go a lot more smoothly.
