Meraki Beauty owner Tia Jones
Meraki is a Greek word meaning “to do something with soul, creativity or love: to put something of yourself into your work.” And that is exactly what Meraki Beauty owner Tia Jones lives by. She started Meraki Beauty in 2017 because she wanted to create a comfortable space for all her clients to visit. Jones previously worked for MAC for seven years and, over that time, developed a strong clientele; she wanted her relationship with those clients to continue even after their events had passed. “I’m about building relationships,” says Jones. At first it was just going to be makeup services, but it has since evolved organically into a full-service salon without her even realizing it. Meraki Beauty offers hair styling, facials, tanning and more. The entire team creates a positive environment. “Clients can sit on the couch and finish their wine after their service,” Jones says. She didn’t want a stuffy place, but rather somewhere where guests could hang out with their gal pals. The aesthetic of the salon is Jones’s own boho-chic style intertwined with the industrial look of her location in Allentown. She chose to put her roots down in Allentown because of her passion for the city’s revitalization—the salon was actually vacant for 10 years before she came in and opened Meraki. “I want to be a small piece of what this city is becoming,” says Jones.
