A POP-UP EXHIBITION
Animal LogicA Surreal Happening by Cheryl Hochberg and FriendsFriday, April 25, 2 p.m. AND Sunday, April 27, 2:45 p.m.
This three-day exhibition/performance explores the blurry line between human nature and animal nature. On Friday, April 25, artist and Chair of the Kutztown University Fine Arts Department, Cheryl Agulnick Hochberg, will be in the Museum during our Abstract Fridays program to open the exhibition of her recent paintings of birds and animals, such as Itchy Kangaroos and Slovenly Bison, that push realism into the hyper-real and surreal. Hochberg's paintings will stay on display through Sunday, when the "happening" culminates with a musical event conceived by Hochberg, arranged and conducted by Dr. Susanna Loewy, and with costumes/sculptures created by Andrew Brehm.
Musicians include Charissa Howden, Laura Cressler, Abby Goodling, Cory Samsel, Meghan Damiter, Blair Boyer, Kyle Lennon, Fawn Guasta on flute, David Mayrhofer, Joey Coco, and Steven Trapani on clarinet. This project was made possible with the help of grants from the KU Foundation and the Marguerite Bierman Endowment.
Animal Logic is a FUSE Art Infrastructure production in collaboration with the Allentown Art Museum. It is the first of a series of exhibitions designed as short-term interventions in the Museum's permanent galleries with a specific goal of bridging the gap between art and performance.
