Annual Mother's Day Fine Arts & Crafts Fair
to
Main Street, Center to Broad Streets Visitor Center 509 Main, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 18018
For the 48th year, the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission offers this colorful sidewalk festival. It’s a virtual open air museum, but here you can take some of the treasures home. A juried team of over 70 regional artists and crafters exhibit their life’s work in jewelry, tiles, pottery, sculpture, photography, wood, oils and watercolors, metal, wearable art, and other beautiful and practical media. It’s a stroll through beauty and a source for refreshing your home décor or your spring outfit. More fun, original, and creative than a trip to the mall.
The Children’s Art Activities, sponsored each year by Crayola, involve kids all day in varied art projects and mural painting. Last year, artist Virginia Abbott and participating kids created a striking sculpture, titled “Faces,” from found and discarded objects. Visible at www.bfac-lv.org, it’s being raffled this year. While you’re here in the Historic Quarter, drop in to the resident shops and to the Visitor Center on Main Street to learn more about attractions and activities throughout the region. Refuel in Bethlehem’s downtown restaurant heaven.
To the lilt of strolling musicians watch Artist in Residence Arianne Schnalzer at work and talk with her about the artist’s way of seeing and creating. From among all the works, Hannah Burke, Curator and Visual Arts Coordinator at ArtsQuest, will choose the Best of Show, Second Prize, Third Prize, and Best Display. Her choice of the Purchase Prize is acquired by The Fine Arts Commission to donate as a gift to the City of Bethlehem. Altogether, an annual fiesta.
Sponsored this year by Blick Artist Materials, City of Bethlehem, Crayola, Historic Bethlehem Partnership, Just Born, WDIY, Working Dog Press, and the Bethlehem Parking Authority.
