The THE BAND Band — The Last Waltz 43rd Anniversary Celebration
to
Mauch Chunk Opera House 14 W Broadway, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania 18229
The original Band’s final performance, in San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, was called The Last Waltz, and set the standard by which all farewell concerts are measured.
Join The THE BAND Band for a celebration of the 43rd Anniversary of The Last Waltz, featuring the TTBB Horns and special guests, including Big Jim Wheeler, Katie Pearlman, Thom and Melanie Hogan, James Finnen, and Billy Roues. And as with the original Last Waltz, when Bill Graham catered the show to acknowledge the making of a classic and historic event, the Opera House will serve hors d’oeuvre by 14-Acre Farm.
The legendary farewell concert by The Band (and Martin Scorsese-directed documentary) featured more than a dozen guest stars, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton, and showcased many of The Band’s classic hit songs, such as "The Weight," "Up On Cripple Creek," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "Ophelia," and "It Makes No Difference."
Gary Solomon, co-founder of The THE BAND Band, was in the right place at the right time when he found himself in the audience at The Last Waltz at San Francisco’s Winterland Arena on Thanksgiving Day 1976. He knew then that The Last Waltz would prove to be a concert for the ages. Immediately after the show, he wrote in a letter to his friends back home, "I have just come from the most incredible musical happening I have ever experienced, or probably ever will." Over 40 years later, Solomon now leads the critically acclaimed tribute band he co-founded with friend and keyboardist Jack Kraft 12 years ago. "I was so blown away by the experience of being at The Last Waltz, I wanted to tell the whole world about it. I guess I still do."
The THE BAND Band brings the music to life with authentic, true-to-form renditions of the extraordinary repertoire, delivered with the passion and commitment for which The Band was renowned.
