Get Out Lehigh Valley - Stone Soup Stroll
to
Pool Wildlife Sanctuary 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, Pennsylvania 18049
Prior to our hike, we’ll start two big pots of “stone soup” over an open fire. In the tradition of the folk tale “Stone Soup,” bring a vegetable (fresh or canned) to add to the community pots – both beef-based and vegetarian options available. While the soups simmer, we’ll walk.
In the delightful folk tale “Stone Soup”, a weary traveler tells a village that he can make a delicious soup from water and a stone. The story shows that the magic wasn’t in the stone; it was in the power of the community. The same thing can be found in nature, where a community is a group of interdependent organisms of different species living together in a specified habitat. Each species adds to the community and depends on all others within the habitat.
The walk is appropriate for children of all ages. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bring a camera/binoculars to view the forest in winter. Wear layers of clothing and sturdy footwear that is appropriate for the weather. Heated bathrooms are on site in the Air Products Educational Building.
