Ricardo Bacallao will discuss the work and identity of a new generation of Cuban filmmakers who live and work outside of Cuba. These filmmakers share common problems, strategies and aesthetic influences with their counterparts in Cuba.
Bacallao graduated from Havana’s Superior Institute and received his MFA in film from NYU, Tisch Asia school of Art, in Singapore. He has toured universities in the United States screening his documentaries which cover topics such as race, immigration, and Santería. He works as a freelance director, producer and editor of documentary shorts. His first feature film, “The Uncle’s Request” is currently in production.
