The National Canal Museum and the newly restored Josiah White II canal boat open their summer season in Hugh Moore Park on June 6. The two attractions – the only canal museum and mule-drawn canal boat ride in Pennsylvania – tell the story of America’s golden age of canals and how canals impacted the country’s growth. The museum will offer a free boat ride with the purchase of an $8 adult pass, $7 senior citizen or military veteran, or $6 children’s pass to the museum on June 6 for National Trails Day.
The National Canal Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate and affiliate of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, features a variety of hands-on activities and displays for children and adults. Museum hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission for the museum and canal boat ride is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and military veterans, $9 for children ages 3 – 15, and free for children under three. Following the opening weekend, the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 to 4:30 p.m., until the end of August. The canal boat follows the same daily schedule, with rides at 12, 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
