Tony-winner James Lapine (a frequent collaborator of Stephen Sondheim) joined forces with William Finn to craft the story of a family as the son prepares for his Bar Mitzvah. Add their psychiatrist, the father's lover and some very good friends for a story that explores everything from baseball, chess, and lesbians, to the reality of AIDS. Falsettos opened in 1992 and garnered seven Tony nominations and two awards; it enjoyed a successful Broadway revival in 2016.
