With the arrival of spring, it will soon be time to swap our winter looks for something fresh and current. The spring/summer 2016 runways showcased many trends that can be easily done at home! From texture to braids, these looks are a fresh update from the sleek looks in the past, and a great way to have fun.
Texture
It's time to embrace your natural hair texture. Waves and curls were a big focus on the runways for the upcoming seasons. Gone are the days of sleek straight hair. Curls ranged from tight to loose and sexy, but the key is to have some type of texture in the hair. So ditch the pin straight hair and check out the looks from Stella McCartney.
Fringe
A great way to update your cut is to add bangs, or in hairdresser terms “fringe.” Fringe showed up on many runways, either faux, created with a hairpiece, or cut into the model's hair. Fringe can be bold and severe, choppy and jagged or long and sexy, as was seen at Rebecca Minkoff's show. Go for longer fringe if you are not sure whether you want to go above the brow or if you don't want to take the jump. Experiment with a hairpiece or wig with a fringe and have some fun, like many of the models do.
Low Buns
The topknot is a thing of the past. This season we saw lots of pulled back hair and low buns at the nape of the neck on the runways. Everything from sleek and perfected to messy and sexy are hot for buns. Slick hair back, secure in a low ponytail and twist the ponytail, pinning into a bun. For a fun look, let the ends of the hair poke out from the bun. Or as seen at Tory Burch, brush hair back with your fingers to create a loose look, and randomly pin hair up creating a not so perfect bun. All you need for this style is long hair and some bobby pins.
Pig Tails
It seems like the ponytail is always in style. Whether high or low on the head, it's a great go to look. This season though, pigtails make a comeback. Yes, pigtails! These are not the little girl looks from days past, but cool and updated. Keep the hair low and close together for the new look from spring. To make an even bolder statement, add a clip, like those seen at the Chanel show, which connects the two pigtails and makes a futurist, contemporary style.
Braids
One of the most versatile ways to style your hair is with braids. There are many ways to braid your hair; fishtail, french, corn row, rope and lots more. Many of these braids were seen on the runways for this spring. The one common denominator for braids this season is the sleekness. No wispy, messy braids this season. Braids need to be tight, sleek and functional so make sure you use the right styling products to achieve this look. Some of the best braids this season were seen on the runways at Public School, Proenza Schouler and Hervé Leger.
As we step into spring and summer, have fun with your hair. Embrace the texture, play it up with braids or go for a faux or real fringe and be fashion forward in 2016! And for more inspiration for 2016 check out our boards on Pinterest.
