Better Skin, Unmasked!
By: Lehigh Valley Style, Style Picks, Style, Lehigh Valley Style August 2015

When you don't have the time or the cash for that much-needed spa day, treat yourself to an in-home DIY facial that will give you healthy, glowing skin. A few common household ingredients and a few teaspoons of raw honey are all you need to find a mask that's just right for your budget and skin type.

For acne-prone skin

lemon and honey mask

¼ organic lemon juice1½ Teaspoons raw honey

This simple face mask will give your skin a warm glow while helping fade acne spots and scars. Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water, followed by a splash of cold water for maximum effect. Add a little punch to this mask by adding a pinch of cinnamon, which will work with the honey to dissolve bacteria and fight breakouts.

For sensitive skin

banana and honey mask

½ mashed banana¼ cup oatmeal, cooked with milk1 egg½ Tablespoon raw honey

Massage this mixture onto your face in slow, circular motions and after 15 minutes rinse with lukewarm water. This mask will replenish your skin with nourishing vitamins and minerals as it gently cleanses and heals it.

For dry skin

egg and honey mask

1 Tablespoon raw honey1 egg yolk½ teaspoon almond oil1 tablespoon yogurt

Let this thick mixture rest on your face for five minutes then wash off with a mild face soap. The anti-bacterial powers of this mask will cleanse your skin while the egg and almond oil give your skin needed moisture. You'll be left with tightened pores and skin that has a natural glow.

For mature skin

papaya and honey mask

½ ripe papaya peeled, seeded and sliced½ teaspoon raw honey¼ teaspoon lemon or lime juice

After the papaya is crushed and well-blended, add the rest of the ingredients and spread over your skin, letting it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. The high levels of antioxidants and enzymes in this mask helps wash away dry, surface skin cells and leaves you with a glowing complexion.
