Great summer hair today is no longer about one look, or the right look, it is about being able to create great looks and versatility you can love and play with everyday. From the beach, to the office, to a backyard party or a fun night out with friends, these dos will get you through any scenario August throw at you.
Lobs and Bobs
A trend that is still going strong is the lob. So many celebrities are making the cut and going to shoulder-length hair. Celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner and Victoria Beckham, to name a few, have cut their long locks to the updated lob. It's a great way to make your hair look healthy and updated in the remaining weeks of summer. If you are more daring, try the even shorter bob, a la Taylor Swift. It's a great update with a modern edge, especially if you add a fringe or add texture.
Ponytails
Ponytails are a great and easy way to style your hair for summer. Low ponytails can be dramatic and are great for a night out. They can be sleek with no flyaways or a bit messy and sexy. If you choose to sport a high ponytail, keep it sleek for summer. Brush gelled hair back into a high ponytail, wrap a small section of hair around the base of the elastic and keep wrapping the hair down the ponytail so you have about an inch or so of the ponytail wrapped. It's a fun and cool look where the bit of hair becomes an accessory.
Texture with Braids
If the summer days are too hot for you to pick up a curling wand or flat iron, opt for beach waves. Wash or wet your hair before bed, add a styling product like mousse, a soft gel or spray throughout your hair, and braid it. Decide if you want the waves thin or thick: lots of thin braids will give you more texture, and thicker braids will achieve softer waves. Sleep on it, and in the morning, hit it with a low blow drier for just a few minutes to make sure hair is dry. Undo the braids, run your fingers through it to break the braids and voilà: textured, wavy hair.
Second Day Hair
If you do the texture with braids, then the next day you can use them to get sexy second day hair. Skip your morning wash and just hit the roots with some texture spray or dry shampoo. Tease a bit at the root in the front hairline and crown, pull the front sections loosely back and clip. Sleeping on the waves from the day before will help rough up the roots, giving the hair a loose, messy, cool look without all the morning fuss.
Top Knots
Too hot to wear your hair down? Go for a topknot. Brush all your hair onto the top of your head, add a hair tie and keep puling through until you know you can't twist the hair tie again. Instead of pulling the hair out and having an I Dream of Jeannie ponytail, stop pulling the hair through and keep the ends sticking out of the hair tie in the back. To make it cool for summer evenings out, spray the ends with hairspray to stiffen them and add a black ribbon or piece of leather around the hair tie to create and edgier look for night.
With a few weeks of summer left, these looks will keep you looking great, up to date, having fun and looking cool for August.
