One hundred and sixty swag bags lined the floor in front of me at Cosmopolitan last Thursday night. Some might have been overwhelmed by this sight, but I was filled with excitement as I made sure each bag had a donated gift item from all of the vendors participating in the event. Event planning was always something I dreamt of doing and even something as small as filling swag bags was my first step in that direction.
Around 3:30 p.m., the vendors started arriving with their respected goodies to be sold at their shopping tables. It was only a matter of time before models, assistants and catering staff filled the venue as they hurriedly tried to tie up loose ends before the night's event.
Having some time to myself as I waited for the model's clothing to arrive, I got a chance to sit back and see the action as it unfolded. It was amazing to watch vendors and volunteers donating their time to come together to create such a spectacular event to benefit The American Cancer Society.
Little did I know at that point in the evening that my involvement was about to dramatically increase. As the model's outfits and accessories began to arrive, my fashion instincts kicked in and I immediately began to organize the accessories, shoes and clothing according to model and fashion show lineup. By 6:30 p.m., I made sure the models were ready and lined up, outfits and accessories styled and they were ready to hit the runway for their first look of the night.
When the final look was announced, I couldn't believe that I had just successfully assisted and coordinated my first ever mini fashion show! It may not have been New York Fashion Week, but it was my very own behind the scenes glimpse into the fashion world and let me tell you, it was one heck of a good feeling!
After weeks of helping to plan, organize and coordinate this great shopping and fashion event for The American Cancer Society, I was more than ready for a great night's sleep. But one thing's for sure, I would do it again in a heartbeat! Check back with you soon!
