Packing For A Beautiful Vacation
By: Online this Month, Lehigh Valley Style July 2016, Beauty

Summer is upon us, and with summertime comes vacations, swimming and the sun. But most people don't realize that with the change of climate and surroundings, your hair products need to change too. Here are some tips for making sure you use the right hair products for those trips and summer time adventures that will keep your hair looking its best.

Pools, Beaches and Lakes

One of the best things you can do for your hair in the summer is wet it with good water before going swimming. Rinsing your hair under a shower or misting it with a spray bottle helps fill the hair's cuticle and helps to keep out chlorine, brown lake water and salt. After swimming, maintain your hair with a daily shampoo and conditioner, but also make sure that once a week you use a clarifying shampoo or treatment that rids hair of the chlorine and salt. And while you are sitting and enjoying the sun and sand, spray your hair with a leave in conditioner, like KMS California's MOIST REPAIR Leave-in Conditioner. It will help detangle hair and keep in moisture.

Lots of Humidity

If you are traveling to a vacation destination that has high humidity, make sure you pack the right products to fight it. Look for shampoos and conditioners that help tame frizz. A great item to have on hand is one like KMS California's HAIRSTAY anti-humidity seal. It is a 24-hour humidity blocker that's great to help shield your hair from frizz. For those of you that have curly or textured hair, find products that keep curls under control. ARROJO's Curl Enhancer tightens, unites and enriches hair. It has a moisturizing crème base that helps refine and boost curls as texture takes shape, this way your hair can look as great on vacation as it does at home.

Traveling Abroad

If you are lucky enough to travel abroad this summer, there are some important things to be aware of. Most of us know that the outlets in Europe are not the same as those in the U.S. and having an outlet adapter is key. The other big piece of information is voltage on most dryers, irons and wands are 110 volts, where in Europe they run 220 volts. I know many people who have plugged in their styling tools using an adaptor only to have them burn out and be unusable. Make sure your tools are marked Dual Voltage or you'll end up having to buy a new dryer or iron when you are away. And if by chance you can't use your styling tools, make sure to pack clips, elastics or other hair accessories that will keep you looking stylish on your vacation.

After Hours

After a day at the beach, pool or sight seeing, we usually will go out for a nice dinner or drinks. To help keep hair looking good, or if you don't have the time to wash and style it, packing products that refresh it are key. A must-have product is a dry shampoo or dry conditioner, like ARROJOs ReFinish Dry Shampoo or ReFresh Dry Conditioner. Dry shampoos rid hair of oil and build-up, and helps create volume and texture at the same time. Dry conditioner is perfect in low humidity environments, like Las Vegas, and are perfect to add softness or tame dry, fly away hair. Wave and sea salt sprays are also great products to pack and are able to enhance texture and give you that lived in, beachy look, with a few quick sprays.
