Owner/buyer Shawnnah Drey knew she wanted to go into business for herself, but she always thought it would be something spa-related. “I have been a licensed esthetician for about a decade,” she shares. “But the pandemic changed the beauty industry, as it did with many others.” When Drey was studying to become an esthetician, she learned about ingredients and what reactions they can give the body. “This made me pay more attention to what products I used,” she says. This realization coupled with her love for nature inspired her to make sustainable practices more accessible to others. At Verde, they offer everything from home décor to jewelry, along with locally made soaps, candles, salves and crocheted items. “We also offer household cleaners that can be paid by the ounce in our refillery, or ones that can dissolve in water; all are all-natural, and pet and child safe,” she says. “Some of our popular items have been our laundry sheets and our snarky reusable bags. Our local honey was very popular as well and we sold out quickly.” Drey hopes Verde can be a staple for personal and home care while also being a local hub for gift-giving.
