Ah, it's that time of year again when we work on that much-anticipated collection of Our Favorite Things. This feature has defined the July issue and, in my opinion, is one of the most exciting issues we publish. The Style Girls have a lot of favorite things and every year we have to try and narrow down which people, places and things make the cut (no easy task!).Yesterday I actually experienced a favorite for myself—Makeup by Carmen Toro. Those of you who frequent American Hairlines have no doubt come across this warm, talkative and vivacious woman who loves to make women feel beautiful. We often see these women strutting their stuff at parties and galas, and we ask ourselves, “How does she always look so good?” Carmen recently launched her very own mineral makeup line, Beauty Alibi, which will be carried by Hellertown salon NVS. This is where Alison Conklin and I caught up with the soon-to-be-famous Carmen for a photo shoot and interview.
While we often work on assignments in tandem like this, today was a first of sorts because I was not behind the camera watching from afar but actually in the shoot, as Carmen used me as the makeup model. While I wouldn't typically step in like this, it will actually be quite helpful when I write her OFT piece. I now know first-hand why women flock to Carmen and how with just a few products she can bring out your best features. Alison and I learned some helpful tips and tricks, too, (I learned that I need to use less blush and more bronzer) and I guess it wasn't so bad to feel pampered, if only for a few minutes.
