As I continue my internship at LVS week to week, one of the goals I set for myself is to figure out what I like and dislike about working in an editorial department of a magazine in order to better determine where I see myself in a future career. So far, what I'm enjoying most is the interview process when researching a story. Getting the chance to hear about a person's background, their own personal story in their own words, their passions and interests, is my favorite part of the writing process.
This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dawn Keagy, one of the owners of Forgotten Treasure Chest, a new furniture and accessories store in Easton. It was nice break from the office atmosphere where I got to explore the area and find my way around Easton. Home furnishings aren't my area of expertise so it was interesting for me to learn more about the art of interior design, furniture and how Dawn finds new items for the store.
Dawn and her business partner, Jamie Leisy, spend hours scouring flea markets and estate sales to find items they can refurbish into magnificent home décor. I love the idea that an antique, something cherished and loved by someone else for years, can find a new purpose and a fresh look in someone else's home. My favorite part of visiting Forgotten Treasure was having the opportunity to converse with someone I'd otherwise never have met (if it wasn't for this internship)! Check out my Life in the Valley write-up about Forgotten Treasure in the December issue and I'll be sure to keep you updated on my next adventure!
