Hello again! The bi-annual hype that is New York Fashion Week is known worldwide and definitely garners attention from fashion enthusiasts and celebrities alike. I'm fascinated by many forms of design and art (I also enjoy a little shopping from time to time, on a college budget of course). I love the big city for that energized environment which becomes a breeding ground for self-expression. Little did I know that the Lehigh Valley has its own locally-grown fashion scene.
Last week was all sorts of chic at LVS. The week kicked off with a Stylish Soiree at The Promenade Shops. I was quite excited about it as I prepared goodie bags filled with martini glasses, LVS T-shirts, a September issue with a free gift subscription to our magazine. All the more reason to come dressed to impress! The event was definitely a learning experience for me as well. I witnessed how to setup our famous Style Wall, which will be an important duty as a marketing intern. The event brought families, couples and ladies out to indulge in store and restaurant promotions, giveaways, modeling and beauty consultations, among many other activities.
Then on Saturday I attended the much anticipated Bethlehem Fashion Show. There were 15 downtown boutiques that provided clothes and accessories for the runway show and despite an outrageous hurricane-like rain storm the resilient event strutted on without a hitch. The LVS team pitched in to ensure that the attendees could have their Style Scene photo taken regardless of the weather. I never thought braving a severe storm would be a statement I'm making about my internship, but I learned a good mini lesson on crisis management and how to roll with the punches.
Overall, seeing the hundreds of people who came out to support local businesses and bring their own fashionable flair to the event has given me a new perspective on life in the Valley. As I sat front row with the LVS girls, watching models catwalk down the runway, I felt really proud of the accomplishments that are happening right here in our hometown.
