With the hectic nature of the holidays approaching, I elected to make this week my last as an intern at Lehigh Valley Style. I've been adding a couple of honeymoons to my U.S. honeymoon hotspots collection, as well as embarking on a new segment profiling a local volunteer, so it's been an interesting mix of revisiting the old and experimenting with the new.
It's hard to believe, looking back, that I've been here almost four months! I started as an utter noob, oblivious to simple office procedures such as transferring calls and writing down people's names. I did have experience with fax machines, but that turned out to be as useful as my long history with rotary phones.
It's been a real learning experience, and not only about how to do editorial work like conducting interviews and turning them into blurbs or columns, fact checking, research and the grueling labor of stuffing binders. I've also
learned what a local magazine like LVS does to reach out to and support the community. The chance to meet and talk to local business owners and do something to help their endeavors succeed has been really rewarding. I've learned the power of writing to convey something important to an audience and contribute to an informed (and stylish) citizenry.
There have been challenges along the way, but with Meghan's unique blend of dry sass and no-nonsense guidance, I made it through without blowing anything up. I'll truly miss my time in the office, but I'm excited to continue contributing to LVS as a freelance writer next year!
