As promised, here's a second entry as I'm poised to leave within the hour. I'll refrain from any assessment or synopsis of my time here.
The above photo shows you my desk during my last day interning at Lehigh Valley Style. It represents all the components that have become integral desk fixtures during my time here.
From top to bottom, left to right:
The W magazine tear-out: Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling. I was briefly embarrassed tacking this thing to the wall (my ambivalence about the movie this article was promoting being the least of the embarrassment), but I needed something lovely looking on that cubicle wall. It may seem counter-intuitive that I opted for a black and white image, but the tender hand grazing Michelle's face under her delicate net veil sealed the deal.
The traveler mug: Not necessarily the one pictured . . . also, in striving for accuracy I should mention that there's always a blue Nalgene (with straw), but for aesthetic reasons I omitted it from my photo record. This cup today contained coffee, hot water (we have a sweet filtered water dispenser at this office), and green tea.
The paper cupcake plate: (actually atypical as normally the food item would be on some shred of a napkin). A long conference table sits to my right. Occasionally there will be an edible offering atop of it. Some dessert highlights include Rita's Italian Ice, cupcakes, Easter M&Ms, Soumaya & Sons' baklava, a Panera muffin (yes, it qualifies as a dessert) and part of an Easter milk chocolate lamb.
The spiral notebook: Note the black splotches, I've got a compulsion about scribbling the bottoms of hanging letters—y and g are often illegible. Some of those lines are my crossing out tasks that have been accomplished. I'm not much of a task list keeper, but it proved useful. And gratifying once I whipped that ink through them. This notebook also contained interview notes galore and driving directions around the Valley.
There it is. Too many parenthetical phrases and a lot of self-interest, but it's an honest record of my time here. Only the next few minutes will tell whether I throw Michelle and Ryan away or fold them neatly to take along to my next destination. Bye!
