How to Achieve Cool-Dad Style
By: Online this Month, Lehigh Valley Style June 2016, Fashion

These days, options for dads in the style department are limitless. From grooming to hair and fashion, dads have choices to be stylish and trendy or classic and conservative, and either way, they can fit right in or stand out. Let us take a look at some of the ways dads today can be “cool.”

Facial Hair

Facial hair has become part of the norm for dads. Beard and mustache styles run the gamut from short and scruffy to long and groomed and give dads an option to change up their looks while having a bit of fun. Like haircuts, beards too need to fit your face shape, so what may look good on one dad might not be right on you. Facial hair needs some of the same maintenance that the hair on your head does. Make sure you shampoo, condition, comb and trim your facial hair to keep the style looking great and healthy. Play around and be patient while growing out your facial hair, because it does take time. But once you get it going, you will have endless options for your look and change it up as much as you choose.

Skin

Taking care of your skin should be a key part of every dad's morning ritual. There are a lot of great products to help keep skin looking healthy. Using facial cleansers and moisturizers will help remove dead cells that make your skin look dull and will help to bring life back to your skin. Anti-aging creams are great for dads and can help with fine lines around the eyes while adding moisture and helping to firm skin. Don't forget the sunscreen. Dads should apply a UVA/UVB sunscreen 15 minutes before going out in the sun. Whether it is to cut the grass, throw a baseball or enjoy some downtime, sunscreen will help prevent skin damage and help keep away things like age spots.

Hair

Looks for dads can be anything from short to long or even none at all, and your hairstyle needs to fit both your face shape and lifestyle. Maintaining your look and keeping your neckline polished means a trip to the barber every four to six weeks for a cut. Make sure you get the basics right and have a great shampoo and conditioner. These products are key when it comes to keeping your hair from looking dull while addressing things like frizz or fine hair. Know that it's possible to embrace hair color without all the maintenance or that shoe polish look. Color services for dads now offer five minute color options that blend grey away and require little to no maintenance.

Fashion

When it comes to fashion looks for dads, there are now many options, from skinny chinos to cool jeans to wearing pattern on pattern with your shirt and tie. The traditional suit has been replaced by the slim suit worn with a more relaxed shirt or high end T-shirt, and even cool separates can give you multiple style options. Shoes too can be a fun way to accessorize your look. Sneakers can be both sporty and high end, and beautiful, leather loafers can be worn with a fun pair of socks or no socks at all. Add a cool watch or sunglasses, and it becomes easy to be the dad with the most style on the block.

Today's dads have style, and no matter what your age, it is easy to look great. So don't worry about keeping up or being a slave to fashion, instead make sure you are having fun, trying a few new things and as easy as that, you'll find you are always in style.
