My First Field Trip

My First Field Trip
By: Lehigh Valley Style June 2014, Life of a Style Intern

So I survived my first week as an LVS intern and as far as I can see, it is going to be pretty hard to top. On my second day as an intern, Editor-in-Chief Lisa Gotto had me out of the office, taking me along with her on a tour of the new and improved Crayola Factory in Downtown Easton. Led by the awesome Assistant Manager of Communications Kelly Suarez, Lisa and I dodged little kids all around the four floors of fun, becoming kids again ourselves while wrapping personalized crayons, making custom markers and creating a melted wax masterpiece. The trip brought back memories of my mother taking my brothers and me on a tour as children, but I would venture to say that I had even more fun during my second visit as a 19-year-old.

To top off my exciting second day, when we got back to the office a sweet delivery arrived. As a token of appreciation for capturing the cover of June's Best Of issue for “Best Gluten-Free Menu,” local bakery Vegan Treats dropped off some goodies. I know, I know, Crayola Factory AND delicious cake in one day? I am one spoiled intern.

My second week began with writing, lots and lots of writing. I am responsible for web stories and Life in the Valley pieces, so I am learning the art of research and sending more emails than I have ever sent. I was also introduced to my office phone when I came in Tuesday morning and saw that I had five messages. Five! That is more than I receive during a whole semester of college. I don't think someone has ever wanted to reach me so badly. I have never been more scared of a piece of technology in my life. After some trial and error I finally figured out how to listen to my messages and did my best to help the woman on the other end. That was my first lesson in customer service and I will be the first to admit that my phone presence could use a little polishing.

Stay tuned for more updates on my journey as a bright and shiny new intern. Until next week, I am Mary Paige Nesfeder reporting live from the intern desk at Lehigh Valley Style.
