Often times, the life of an intern consists of sitting in front of the computer and typing away in the (usually) quiet office. Even shorter articles are time-consuming as you research, plan, contact, write, edit, re-write and edit again! However, with each article I produce, I have come one step closer to knowing more about the Lehigh Valley and the astounding people who live and work here.
Unfortunately, my time writing for Lehigh Valley Style has come to a close. While I am excited for the summer and some time off, I can't help sitting here and thinking back to my first few days as a brand new, shiny intern. I started back in December, which feels like a lifetime ago, and I remember how strange it felt to be writing about Valentine's Day when I hadn't even experienced Christmas yet. Fast forward a few months and there I was, writing about what to pack for a day on the beach while it was still 20 degrees outside!
It took some getting used to, and I made plenty of mistakes, but it was a learning process, and boy, did I learn! I learned that behind the scenes of a magazine can sometimes get a little hectic, I learned that outside influences may hinder your work and I learned that you just have to work through all of that and do what you need to do.
There were days where my course load for school and my work load for LVS got me down and I didn't feel like coming in, but I got my butt out of bed anyway and I'm glad that I did. Interning for LVS has been a gift and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity. I have worked with some incredible and talented women, and have bettered myself, not only in my writing, but in my personal life as well, through this experience.
Now that the clock is ticking down the time I have left, I will finish up my last few edits and leave the office for the last time as an intern. Thank you all for following along with me on this wonderful adventure!
