New Year, New Style Staples
By: Lehigh Valley Style February 2017, Online this Month, Fashion

The New Year is still young, and for those of us in the Lehigh Valley, winter will be here for a few more months. So let's take this time to go through our closets and purge what we don't wear anymore and take advantage of the sales to replace those items with key pieces that are still on trend for winter 2017.

Coats

Living in the Northeast, we most likely have multiple coats for each season. This winter, make a statement. A statement coat can be anything with a faux-fur, trimmed collar to a pop of color. Color can be pink, blue or bright red. Think spring, not winter, and patchwork is also a bold move this winter. And if you are not sure what to wear it with, layer it over all black or a great pair of jeans, have fun and bring something bright.

Bags

The bag to have this winter is a cross body design that not only lets you be hands free for your Snapchat pictures, and to grab your phone quickly while still holding your hot coffee, it's a great way to update your look for winter. Lengths of the cross body bag can vary and can be varied for where they sit on your body and how they accent your silhouette. Many designers have shortened the cross body bag, some to just under the armpit and others to waist level. You might be able to reuse some of your bags from past seasons as long as they cross over you. This season, as long as it crosses the body and fits comfortably under your arm, it doesn't matter what length they are.

Shoes

Who doesn't want to buy a new pair of boots each winter? Well, if you need an excuse this year the ankle boot with a chunky heel is a good one and a must have for winter. But don't settle for your basic black boot! This season's ankle boots are updated with shiny materials, patent python and modern angular zippers. So think funky and fun and not basic and boring because this year boring is out.

Coats

For men, the bomber jacket has been a staple for many seasons, but now it is time to raise the bar. Decorated bomber jackets are hot for guys. Look for jackets that have embroidery, patches or even go for one that's velvet. This season, the jacket is not understated; instead, it's a statement itself. Another go-to jacket is the duffle. The duffle, also known as the toggle for its toggle buttons, was a big hit on the men's runways. Look for duffles in different fabrics other than thick wools. Lengths varied on the runways, so from short to really long, they are the still hot for this winter.

With NYC Fashion Week just around the corner, and fashion getting faster every year with more and more collections, now is a great time to grab looks that are still hot. With a few key pieces, your winter look is hot again.
