This week I'm working on something top secret; getting my hands dirty with some investigative journalism. Cue Mission: Impossible theme song and bring in the disguises as I go undercover to discover some of fashion's greatest secrets.
Okay, so maybe that description was partly (totally) over-dramatic, but I am doing a bit of investigative fashion journalism this week. My special assignment is to source the outfits worn by our very own “Women of Style” for our upcoming September issue. So what if that entails a little less James Bond and a lot more Google!? To me, the job is no less exciting.
To quote the great Blair Waldorf, fictional Gossip Girl character and teen icon whom I hope to be reincarnated as, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It's movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we'd like to be.” Beautifully said, B. Ladies have long recognized that style and fashion stand for something more than a piece of woven thread worn because it's socially unacceptable, and I'm pretty sure illegal, to be publically nude. What we wear determines how we want to be perceived and sets an immediate standard for how you may be treated by others.
The ladies on the pages of this magazine stand as perfect representations of this idea. A powerful, classy lady should dress as such. It doesn't matter if fashion in particular isn't your forte. What it comes down to is how your outfit choices make you feel. These women have decided on feeling beautiful, confident and respected, feelings that all women deserve to experience. At the same time, it's very important to dress for you—wear what makes you happy and comfortable even if it's against the trend. When you're wearing something you love, your inner-confidence will shine through and people take note of a woman (or man!!) who is comfortable in his or her own skin.
Therefore, I urge you, Style readers of the Lehigh Valley, to strut your stuff with undeniable flair. We can ALL be “Women (or Men!) of Style” and slowly, but surely, help to make the Valley a more stylish place.
