One of the unexpected perks of my internship is how much I am learning about all that the Lehigh Valley has to offer. Until this semester, my world consisted of the confined limits of my campus, a few streets in town, and occasional trips to the mall, grocery store or movies. Having a new pair of wheels helps, but it's really my work here that encourages me to get off of my well-worn path and venture out. As I scour the Internet to research businesses and events for the magazine, I'm amazed that all of these cool places exist within a few miles of where I've lived for the past two and a half years.
This weekend I'll be checking out the Allentown Art Museum's opening party for their two new exhibitions, Fabulous Flappers: Fashion from the Ellie Laubner Collection and Haitian Art from the Rodale Family Collection. Guests are invited to become part of the art by dressing up in '20s or island garb, so you better believe I'll be digging through my closet for appropriate dress-up attire. I'm picturing pearls, a gauzy dress and gold headband. I never thought that going to that '20s-themed party last year would come in handy!
On a side note, the other day my roommate came home and told me that she had been to a new entertainment complex which had just opened that week. I couldn't help but feel a bit smug when I told her that not only had I heard of the place, I had been in contact with their publicist, researched and written a piece about it. Exploring the Lehigh Valley is going to be interesting—check back soon!
