Struggling to master the ideal makeup routine for your maturing skin? There are a few crucial steps to achieving that natural glow and avoiding a caked-on catastrophe. Read on!
Moisturizing
When working with maturing and aging skin, the one thing we have to be aware of is that our makeup always starts with our skincare. It is always best to have a good moisturized canvas before applying our makeup, especially since the skin dries out as we age. Using moisturizers and serums before you apply any makeup will help your foundations and makeup not appear "cakey." When applying your moisturizers or serums, start at the center of your face and work outward, always going upward away from gravity. Don't forget to moisturize your neck, too! Start at the base of your neck and work upwards to the jawline. Apply your favorite eye cream from your inner eye, follow your undereye to your temple, and now you're ready to start your makeup!
Foundation
When choosing foundations, go with hydrating liquid foundations, such as tinted moisturizers and BB creams, as well as all cream blushes and highlight products since powder face products will stick and cake into any fine lines and wrinkles. I don't recommend using any bronzer as it can appear to look "muddy" on aging skin. Don't dry out your face. Embrace the oils in your skin—natural oils in your skin will give you a natural glow and a youthful appearance, especially around your brows.
Brows, Eyes and Lips
Speaking of brows, don't forget about them! Brows frame your face so it is very important to keep them well-groomed. Sometimes, as we age, our brows thin out and become non-existent. As a Permanent Make-up Artist, I highly recommend Microblading or Cosmetic Tattooing since brow makeup can appear unrealistic due to having no hair to help form it. If you're applying eye shadow, stick to light matte colors that are non-shimmery, as shimmer eyeshadows will cause a scale-like appearance on the eyelid. When it comes to lips, I like to recommend trying out more lip glosses instead of lipsticks. Lipsticks can cake into the fine lines around your lips wheras lip gloss will brighten and plump your lips!
