While planning dreamy, exotic vacations is a great and all, actually taking them can be pretty expensive. When you factor in the cost of travel, lodging and meals, it is hard to justify taking time off of work to spend such ridiculous amounts of money. Yet, so many of us are in desperate need of relaxation, time to reenergize and refocus.
Staycations can be just as relaxing if not more relaxing than actual vacations. Think about it: There is no concern about missing flights, stressful layovers or wondering if they really wash your bed sheets as often as you assume. During a staycation you have complete control over even the tiniest of details of your vacation.
Be a tourist in your own town or a surrounding one
So many people underestimate the very cities and towns they live in. Here in the Lehigh Valley, we are so fortunate to have a plentitude of incredible local restaurants, museums and even history. Dedicate your staycation weekend to visiting an art gallery or restaurant that you have never been to, or visit one of the local state parks if you want more of an outdoorsy break from your routine.
Plan a spa day
Pamper yourself. A vacation can be just as short as one day. Go out and get a facial, manicure or blowout. All this can be done at a fraction of the cost of airfare and it provides the same rejuvenation of a weeklong cruise. This may be the day you try that hair color or cut you have always dreamt of, or finally treat yourself to the Swedish massage that always seemed out of reach.
Go to one of your happy places
Whether you smile from ear to ear at the beach or at your childhood home, go there. It is so special to spend even just a little bit of time in those places or with those people who make you feel lighthearted and content. Sunday dinner at nana's house may be long overdue and you owe it to yourself.
Get back to yourself
At the end of the day, we get so caught up in the routine of our daily lives that we don't spend much time on ourselves. Even if your vacation is taking a day off to explore an old hobby of yours or read that book that has been sitting on your nightstand for far too long, it is important to take out the time to be you.
