Whether you want to share quality time getting deep in cups and conversation at a brewery or pick up a new craft creation as a Father's Day gift, here are five brews to please your pops this summer.
1. Piwo Grodziskie
The brewers at McCall Collective are tapping into less-remembered beers from the olden days, inspired by a love of history. With a session saloon ale and Dunkles Weissbier with rye to come, the series kicked off with the oak-smoked Polish session ale known as Piwo Grodziskie. Beer has a long history alongside humanity—drop in to McCall's Breinigsville or Allentown location for a taste!
2. Columcille Scotch Ale
The Bourbon Barrel Columcille Scotch Ale develops its flavor over a year aged in freshly dumped bourbon barrels. For the dads who savor a rich and chewy malty beer with big caramel and toast flavors, this ale is named for the Columcille Megalith Park in Bangor.
3. Dada American Porter
A slight distance from the Lehigh Valley, Mystic Ways Brewing in Perkasie could be a great stop before or after taking dad to a show at the Sellersville Theater. Trippy mushroom décor will appeal to those with a hippie heyday, and the American porter Dada is fermented with Mystic's house ale yeast for a toasty, cold brew taste.
4. Mooey
Tucked into Bethlehem's Southside, one of the Valley's best itty-bitty breweries is Bonn Place. First brewed for Father's Day 2016, their not-so-ordinary bitter English-style pub ale Mooey is light and smooth with notes of “biscuit, toffee and sexual desires.” Meaning what? Well, stop in and find out. Also works well as a shandy with lemon soda!
5. Here We Gose Again
The tart gose is an acquired taste, but the balance of sour, salty and sweet is for some the height of delectability. Summer flavors combine in Fegley's sour ale, packed with pomegranates and key limes that make this barbecue-ready refreshment perfect fare for dads hovering around the grill.
