Your mother probably didn't allow you to eat dessert before dinner and most certainly didn't condone having anything remotely resembling a confection for breakfast (toaster pastries aside) but at Griddle145, Mom's rules are made to be broken. In this case, the sweet little rule breaker comes in the form of a stack of brightly-hued red velvet pancakes gloriously dressed with a maple-infused cream cheese topping and a generous sprinkling of chocolate chips. The pancakes pay homage to their more recognizable predecessor—the red velvet cake—and while they look like a deconstructed version, Griddle 145's recipe retains the familiar decadent, chocolaty taste. This is lily-gilding at its finest and owner Sherry Eisenhard knows it. She and husband Taylor are credited with adding this bit of indulgence to the already creative breakfast menu and diners can't seem to get enough of what has become one of the restaurant's most popular dishes and deservedly so. There's no sweeter way to start the morning than with a forkful of these fluffy beauties.
