While Manhattans are typically made with rye whiskey, Italian vermouth and bitters, today's palates tend to favor bourbon instead of rye. “The addition of the Yellow Chartreuse was made in an effort to add an herbal citrus, honey complexity to an already delicious cocktail,” he says of this nearly 400-year-old liqueur blend of 130 different herbs, plants and flowers made by Carthusian monks in the French Alps.
