It’s the most wonderful time of the year: National Ice Cream Day! This Sunday, grab a friend and try one of these satisfying sweet treats. Don’t worry if your diet restricts dairy, if you prefer organic or if you’re a dog, we have some options for you too!
Lemon Meringue
The flavor changes about every two days, but regardless of what is being served, customers are in for a delicious surprise at Vegan Treats in Bethlehem. Chocolate and peanut butter, chocolate malted milkshake, lemon meringue and chocolate salted caramel are just a few flavors available. Best of all, the soft serve ice cream is dairy and cruelty free.
Dirt Sundae
At Pop’s Malt Shoppe in Kutztown, the Oreo Extreme Milkshake is made with vanilla ice cream, crushed Oreos and chocolate sauce and is then crammed with cookies and brownies. For a more casual treat that won’t overload your sweet tooth, try the “dirt” sundae made with chocolate ice cream, crushed Oreos, gummy worms, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
FroYo
Frozen yogurt is not technically ice cream, but that doesn’t diminish its satisfying effect on a hot day. Menchie’s has a variety of flavors in nonfat, low-fat, regular, tart, sorbet, sugar-free, low carb and low carb-sugar-free, as well as a variety of toppings including fresh fruit, chilled, crunchy, syrups and sauces. With two locations in Allentown and one in Bethlehem, the menu will vary by location.
Mocha Chip
The Inside Scoop in Coopersburg is known for its creamy and interesting flavors of ice cream. Their signature flavor, Mocha Chip, is made with real Belgian chocolate and real coffee. This ice cream shop also serves blueberry cheesecake as well as bubblegum, teaberry and key lime pie. Flavors will vary by the day.
Nice Cream
This is the only ice cream offered at HIVE in Kutztown. The Nice Cream is made from banana ice cream, fudge sauce, graham crackers and is entirely vegan and organic. HIVE also offers organic a variety of organic drinks for the banana ice cream haters to enjoy.
Brownie Volcano
Parkside Oasis in Macungie has a pretty intimidating sundae menu, including a warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, peanuts and whipped cream—known as the Brownie Volcano—and ten flavors of soft serve to choose from. But did you know they also have ice cream and treats for dogs?
S’more Please
The S’more Please specialty sundae at the Udder Bar in Allentown is made with vanilla ice cream, graham crackers, chocolate chips, marshmallow sauce whipped cream and a cherry on top. Or, for a gluten-free option served in their special gluten free waffle cone, try the Funky Monkey made with chocolate ice cream, sliced bananas, peanuts, cinnamon and hot fudge.
Peanut Butter Supreme
Premise Maid in Breinigsville offers 40 unique and traditional ice cream flavors. Each flavor is made with sweet cream, milk, sugar, fruit, cocoa, vanilla beans and nuts. Try Peanut Butter Supreme or CMP (chocolate, marshmallow, peanut) ice cream pie.
Peach Melba
At Bank Street Creamery in Easton, their selection of dairy and vegan desserts are always changing. Some vegan gelato flavors include peach melba, pistachio, peanut butter fudge swirl, black currant, strawberry choco chip, chocolate, mango and raspberry basil. Their dairy selection includes cotton candy, Oreo speed wagon, cherry Seinfeld and honey lavender. The ice cream is handmade in store, so the menu depends on the day.
Bing Cherry
Rejoice for sugar-free ice cream! The Bethlehem Dairy Store has seven flavors of sugar-free ice cream including chocolate mint, strawberries and cream butter pecan, bing cherry, moose tracks, vanilla and vanilla chocolate swirl. They also offer over 30 flavors of hard ice cream, ten toppings, three traditional soft serve flavors and four flavors of sherbet, as well as specialty cones, banana splits, milkshakes, sundaes, ice cream sodas and Belgian waffles.
Maplenut
The Canalside Cup in Easton has a 1950s vibe, an extensive menu of fried foods and 50 flavors of house-made soft serve ice cream. This parlor offers unique flavors like black raspberry ice cream, Almond Joy, and maplenut, as well as a variety of milkshakes, cones, Italian ice and gelati.
Yellow Gold
The yellow gold ice cream at Nuts About Ice Cream in Bethlehem is not made out of real gold, but the saffron and pistachios used to make it definitely costs a pretty penny. Unique flavors like the yellow gold may be limited and only offered on specific days, but other flavors like mint chocolate chip and cookie dough are always available. Chocolate Covered Strawberry
Every flavor of ice cream at Owowcow in Ottsville is organic, locally sourced and handmade. The mouthwatering chocolate covered strawberry ice cream is made with fresh chocolate covered strawberries and blended into a sweet cream base. Some of their unique flavors include honey lavender, cinnamon bourbon, lemon ginger, sweet honey cream and rosewater cardamom.
Tornado
So there is such a thing as a good tornado! At Faouzi’s Talk of the Town Ice Cream & More in Easton, Tornados are a blend of your choice of ice cream and candy topping, with whipped cream and a cherry on top. If Tornados are not your speed, try one of their 60 flavors of soft serve or their house-made Italian ice or hard ice cream. Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong.
