In the dark depths of winter, few things stir the spirit like strands of glittering light, be they along boughs, dripping from eaves or wound into wonderful shapes. Once you've exhausted the Valley's spangled offerings, consider venturing further on a winter's night to one of these captivating displays.

This now-massive homage to all things holiday décor winds through bedecked grounds and staged buildings showcasing endless ornaments. Take in the sights and over one million lights of a nostalgic Christmas, peruse the gift shop and shore up with some simple fare. Expect a crowd!

Meet Santa Claus and maybe a snowy owl at this walk-through spectacular at Norristown's Elmwood Park Zoo. Roam the zoo's paths taking in brightly lit animal shapes, hear live entertainment and make your way to the radiant carousel for a festive ride. The zoo has a whole host of animals to see on a daylight visit, too, from the red panda to the red-tailed hawk.
4. Illuminaire Nights
Skippack Pike, Skippack | skippackvillage.com
It's not all about strings of LEDs in every color. For a more subtle and no less warmly-lit holiday light experience, head to the village of Skippack on Fridays between November 24 and December 22, when glowing luminaries line the sidewalks outside shops and restaurants to guide exploring visitors. Quaint boutiques stay open until 9 p.m. and varied dining options make this a great spot for holiday shopping.
5. Peddler's Village
100 Peddlers Village, Lahaska | 215.794.4000 | peddlersvillage.com
Speaking of shopping, the site of Peddler's Village is lit up with extravagant lights this time of year, coating tree limbs and lining the edges of shops that include a book store, cookware, toys and much more, with eateries and options for a stiff drink. Renowned for its cuteness all year long, winter is one of the most whimsical times to visit. Check out the gingerbread house contest display!
