Pennsylvania's winters aren't just cold—they're often bitterly frigid. Colder weather, however, is nothing to fear. If you're looking to enjoy winter outdoors in an upcycling-approved fashion, all you'll need is an old, rusty wheelbarrow and a couple of rocks.
1. Acquire a wheelbarrow. This piece of equipment doesn't need to be fancy, but it does need to be metal. Depending on how hip you consider yourself, you may want to find a unique, vintage wheelbarrow to boost your Instagram likes count. But that's up to you.
2. This step isn't necessary, so if you're looking for brevity, skip ahead to the next step. If want to make this fire pit more of a permanent fixture on your property, lay down stone or bricks in whatever fashion you'd like. Placing the wheelbarrow on top of this ground layer (a rectangle of bricks, maybe, or Pennsylvania bluestone in a circle of sorts) will make it look less impromptu and can also function as a way to keep the wheelbarrow in place.
3. After selecting where the fire pit will rest, make sure that it's cleaned of any debris. Part of this project's beauty is that the pit can, theoretically, be moved around. But it doesn't need to be. Lock it into place using some rocks or cement blocks, if you'd like.
4. That's it! Toss some kindling and wood into the wheelbarrow and warm those chilly bones.
