The most important thing when seeking inspiration for your wedding day is to ensure it reflects the true character and personalities of you and your beloved. That was one of the first tips I picked up when I worked as a personal assistant to celebrity event planner and style guru Colin Cowie, as we began planning Jessica Sklar and Jerry Seinfeld's nuptials. More than likely, as the bride, you have been envisioning your wedding day since you were a child, through the years collecting ideas and inspirations for your big day. What many brides fail to realize, however, is that it's not all about the bride and her wants and needs. Should those wants and needs be fulfilled? Absolutely, but so should his.
If you are working with a professional wedding planner, that's the first and best advice one should offer you. Take some time out of your busy schedules to do some communicating. Ask your groom how he has pictured his wedding day. Many may respond they never thought about it, others might have a strong opinion. Lay that on the table right away. Create a "his and hers" list of inspirations and ideas. Be sure to categorize by topics such as, location, budget, how many attendees, ambiance such as music (band or DJ), lighting, flowers, attire, photography, etc. Both should quietly fill out the list and then exchange ideas when they have finished. You may be pleasantly surprised, and maybe even moved by his response. Ask your guy how he envisions YOU walking down the aisle! Don't you think that's the most important part, knowing just how to see your lover's jaw drop at the altar? Well, "I do."
Cheers to many years!
