New Health Craze
By: Lehigh Valley Style March 2015, Living Well, Life, Lehigh Valley Style

Those sacred, everyday beauty rituals—we all have them. Whether it's lathering your strands in nourishing coconut oil, soaking in a warm tub full of rose water or applying your favorite under-eye cream, we make sure to work these habits into our everyday routines to keep us looking good and feeling even better. Now there's another beauty ritual you may want to consider into your daily health regimen.

It's time to try dry body brushing.

It sounds silly, but simply running a soft bristled brush over your body in circular motions could do wonders for your health, mind and skin. From stimulating the lymphatic system, to eliminating stress and improving digestion and kidney function, dry brushing is considered a full body detox and can be deeply invigorating for the soul. Discover the core benefits of this convenient and affordable new health craze.

Helps boost circulation

By applying a bit of pressure and gliding the bristles over your skin, the brush stimulates blood flow and ultimately gives your complexion a healthy, rosy glow. Internally, the increase in circulation helps your body destroy metabolic waste.

Strengthens the lymphatic system

The primary function of your lymphatic system is to stave off disease, infection and eliminate cellular debris. As blood flow steadily increases while you brush, the body starts to rid itself of these toxins, and as a result, it is able to run more efficiently and can prevent illness from occurring.

Stimulates digestion and kidney function

Naturopathic doctors have even utilized this regimen on patients to ease bloating and massage lymph nodes. By applying pressure to the right areas, dry brushing can help discard excess water and toxins in the body and help with digestion and kidney function.

Reduces appearance of cellulite

Over time, brushing can alleviate hard fat deposits under the skin. By softening these stiff layers, brushing may help distribute the fat deposits more evenly. In order to see quicker results, try brushing two times every day for 30 minutes a session.

Exfoliates and renews

One of the most immediate effects of dry body brushing is smoother skin. The bristles remove dirt and impurities from clogged pores, while instantly wiping away dry, dead skin cells.

Soothes the mind

Spas and massage centers around the U.S. are catching onto this health and beauty craze and are starting to incorporate dry brushing into their existing massage treatments. Why? It's because brushing is not only incredibly healthy for the skin, but also great for relaxation. By finding a quiet place to unwind and perform this treatment, the mind centers itself, which helps eliminate stress as well as any tension in the body, by focusing on the soft glide of the brush.
