It’s the cyberspace version of your neighborhood watering hole, a place where you can raise a glass of your favorite adult beverage among friends near and far, sans sanitizer and face masks.
Travis Lindenmoyer of Lehighton started the Facebook group last year at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when everyday life was altered in dramatic fashion. “It kind of felt like end-of-the-world-type stuff,” he recalls. The current group, which had more than 42,000 members as of early May, is actually the second version of his online vision. It’s meant to be a safe, drama-free zone where online friendships can be forged even during a time of isolation, but it’s made the leap into the “real world,” too. As COVID case counts declined, the group held in-person events, and plans to keep the good times rolling even after all pandemic-related restrictions are lifted. “I like to make people laugh,” Lindenmoyer says. “I like to entertain people.”
