Getting started
What You’ll Need:• Container• Pea gravel• Compost or organic potting mix with good drainage• Organic liquid fertilizer• Thin wooden dowels• Plant markers (pack of 25)• White acrylic paint• Small foam paintbrush• Hot glue gun• Selection of your favorite herbs, $1.99 each (We were able to fit 4 herbs in our loaf pan.)
To make decorative fence, cut dowels to size of container sides.
Attach fence slats to dowels using a hot glue gun.
Paint fence slats and dowels using acrylic paint and a foam brush (apply one to two coats).
When dry, carefully place along inner sides of container.
Pour a layer of pea gravel into container about two inches high. Then pour a layer of compost or organic potting mix about two inches high.*
* Height may vary based on size of container.
Spray soil with fertilizer and work through using your fingers. Remove herb plant from its container and gently break up roots with your fingers.
Using your hands, dig a small well in the soil, place plant inside and cover roots. Make sure that the top of the root ball is about level with the soil.
Plant herbs a few inches apart so they have room to grow and spread out. Water container thoroughly.
How to Harvest
Snip off herbs as needed, when plants begin to look leggy or when they begin to flower.
