The Ronald K. De Long Gallery located on the campus of Penn State Lehigh Valley continues to enliven the pulse of the arts through the skillful guidance of Gallery Director and Coordinator, Ann Lalik. Her curatorial acumen has helped put Center Valley on the map for artists, fans and students throughout the greater Lehigh Valley area.
The gallery is currently showing the superb works of local legend, Greg Weaver. Although he studied art at Carnegie Mellon, his paintings are often redolent of the very best of American folk art, flourishing in a naive world of private associations. His depictions of animals are delightfully packed with punchy colors and clever spatial relationships. Sometimes the created critters are dwarfed by richly smeared hillsides. Others afford an aerial view, where a soaring bird and an inviting landscape carry equal visual impact.
The gallery’s appealing exhibition schedule for 2015 makes multiple visits to the space a must. Among the exciting offerings is a show featuring the masterful, mysterious creations of Khalil Allaik along with the engrossing works of Douglas Ihlenfeld and Susan Barnes. This show will run January 19 through April 15, 2015. Another highlight is the Printmaker Society of the Lehigh Valley collective presenting hand-pulled prints, lithography, screen intaglio and relief. The quality control for the upcoming year is tight, so save their website in your favorites lest you miss out on one of these exemplary shows.
Those wanting to view the current showcase exhibit “Greg Weaver: Urban American Folk Artist,” need to plan their visit to the gallery prior to December 12, 2014, when that display is set to wrap. An auction event of these works will be held Friday December 12 at 6 p.m. at the Penn State Lehigh Valley Campus.
