Before Union and Finch opened this past summer, owner Shahnaz Hanna felt there was a void to be filled in Allentown’s West End. “That void was a casual, modern bistro with a mature sense of hospitality combined with a neighborhood vibe,” says Hanna. With the help of her husband and family, Hanna bought the building that housed the former JP O’Malley’s Pub with the intent to fill that void. She also pulled inspiration from some of her favorite local restaurants in New York City from when she lived there with her husband.
“Our food is casual American fare with familiar favorites. You’ll also see diversity in our menu like poutine and shakshuka, a Middle Eastern dish for brunch,” says Hanna. “Believe it or not, our best seller is our chicken and waffle right now. Customers rave about it.” Other popular items include the tuna tacos and Pat LaFrieda burgers. To drink, they offer a classic cocktail list and fourteen craft beers on tap.
Union and Finch has received a great response from customers. “We’re very active in engaging customers for their feedback, and overall, people love the food and open, airy atmosphere of our space,” says Hanna. Visit Union and Finch during happy hours for $3.50 draft beers, $7 specialty cocktails and tasty appetizers.
