A German and Pennsylvania Dutch tradition that started as a way to use up lard, eggs, sugar and butter ahead of Lent, Fasnacht translates to “fast night.” Made with potatoes and then fried, the Fasnacht doughnut is usually square and without a hole.
Find plain, sugared and powdered Fasnacht offerings at a variety of spots in the Lehigh Valley, with several bakeries already serving them and others accepting preorders.
