If you’re not sure what to order upon entering the brewery, CEO and Brewmaster Curt Keck will likely recommend the HiJinx Sample Flight, which consists of six two-ounce pours. For a mere $3, customers can try a wide array of beers and find a forever favorite. Originally, Keck didn’t charge anything for the flights because he wanted “everyone to try everything,” and he still does.
The flight samples rotate regularly, based on availability, demand and season, but there are some staples that customers can usually count on, like the Far Darrig Irish RED, CitraSqueeze and Barista’s Choice Coffee Porter. The latter happens to be a favorite of Keck’s wife (who, for the record, hates beer) and is made with real coffee from Taylor Roasted CoffeeHouse in Northampton.
While there are food trucks on occasion, snacks always on hand and talk of inviting caterers, HiJinx is currently a bring your own—food that is. Open Thursday through Sunday, the garage-like space is available for casual gatherings, parties and, on Thursdays, quoits.
Find HiJinx brews at local downtown favorites like The Hamilton Kitchen & Bar, Bell Hall, Grain, The Dime and Queen City BBQ, as well as at Liberty Street Tavern and Jack Callaghan’s Ale House. Additionally, Grille 3501 regularly serves their Dolle Streken, which HiJinx exclusively ages in Jack Daniels barrels for the restaurant, is 10.5 percent ABV and comes with a warning label as it’s said to catch you off guard.
Try their Steal Your Face stout and Steal Your Face whiskey, which is a recent collaboration with County Seat Spirits, and whose name is a nod to the Grateful Dead. Enjoy a glass of beer, aged in County Seat’s barrels, a shot of whiskey, and HiJinx’s laid-back vibes and jammin’ music selection.
