“It’s creamy, rich and has hints of vanilla, caramel and chocolate,” owner Larry Porter says, almost wistfully. No, he’s not describing an indulgent, decadent dessert—he’s talking about the flavor profile of the newest addition to Porters’ Pub’s rotating craft beer menu. Aged for three months in bourbon barrels, the ShawneeCraft Imperial Porter is infused with the faintest whisper of whiskey and its velvety, full-bodied taste makes it an ideal cooler weather beer. Surprisingly versatile, the dark brew complements the heartier dishes on the pub’s rather sophisticated menu—when paired with the prime rib filet, pan-seared scallops and risotto or the irresistible homemade crème brûlée, it becomes apparent why this heady beer is so popular among suds lovers. Don’t expect it to last long, though. Produced only in small batches, it will make its seasonal debut at the Easton pub in early fall and just a mere two barrels will be available.
